Innovating Heat Sink Cooling with 6S Series Headlights

We are at it again with yet another innovative design for aftermarket LED headlamp bulbs.  JDM ASTAR has introduced another heat sink type headlight to join others like our 4S and 8th Generation Headlights.

The 6S headlights use a redesigned heat sink that offers improved and larger surface area for heat dissipation.  Rather than using standard aluminum, the 6S are built with the same aviation grade 6063 aluminum that are found on a variety of our existing LEDs today such as our 8th Generation Headlights or smaller bulbs like 3030 14-SMD Series LED bulbs.  This means that there will be a substantial increase in how much heat is radiated from the light source, through the aluminum body, and exhaust through the heat sink in order make cooling even faster.

So what is all the hype about with this new cooling fin heat sink that reminds us all of chopper ready to take off?

Well, it’s not the traditional bulky unit that earlier designs offer.  We have been there before and have seen many cases where a fan or heat sink is a bit too wide to fit, or there is not enough depth to provide fitment for the cooling mechanism thus creating an even bigger problem.  Aside from the labor involved, you will also have to ship something back and we all know how much of a drag this can be.  When we buy stuff off Amazon, it better be right!

The 6S headlights offer a bendable/mold-able heat sink.  The cooling fins use 6063 aluminum and are designed to be adjusted to cater to the clearance on your vehicles housing or area as well as allow fitment if the LED lamp.  The cooling fins will get extend to get air flow to improve radiation of heat.  This means the diodes will be able operate for a longer period of time, as well as provide thousands and thousands of hours of operating life.  So, if the 8th Gens were simply too big to fit, no worries, the 6S headlights still got you covered!

Aside from cooling, the 6S Headlights also offer high thermal resistant diodes that are also found on our existing designs.  The lamp uses a total of 8 CSP (Chip Scale Package) surface mount diodes with 4 on each side.  For those dual headlamp bulbs, they will use 16 CSP diodes with 8 being dedicated to the low beam function and 8 for the high beams.  With CSP diodes as the light source, you can expect things to be lit!  That is an understatement.  Combined with an internal smart driven IC module, the 6S Headlights provide a whomping 4000 lumens per bulb competing with that of our 8th Gens!

But wait…there is still more!

Ability to adjust an aftermarket LED headlight today is almost a certain need with how headlamp housings are being manufactured on vehicle housings today especially with aftermarket!  Some include projectors and others are reflectors.  The 6S headlights, once again, have got you covered!  By loosening the set screw that is by the collar of the LED lamp, it will allow you to free up the bulb and clock the direction of the light sources.  Focus, light concentration, and beam pattern will all be able to adjust through rotation of the bulb.  Once you hit that ‘sweet spot’, mark your LEDs and repeat the same steps with the opposite side and voila!  You will have a beam pattern that is the same, if not similar, to the factory halogen headlamp bulbs.  If you are not sure which way to direct the diodes, check out our blog article titled “Which way should the chips face on your LED headlights?” There you will get all details needed on the suggested bulb orientation.

LED Switchbacks, the revolution of turn signals has begun!

Driving safety is the number one concern when operating a motor vehicle.  Whether your vehicle is a car, truck, SUV, motorcycle, or RV, you always have to consider safety.  One factor that may also affect your driving safety is how your vehicle signals when you are about to perform a turn.  With how innovative automotive LED technology has become, we now have the ability to improve how your turn signal functions so that other drivers can have a distinct view when you are approaching and/or about to signal, to alert them, that you are about to turn.

JDM ASTAR offers LED switchback turn signal bulbs for almost any automotive vehicle.  An LED switchback bulb is a dual-filament LED lamp that supports two different colors of light for each filament.  The colors that the switchback bulbs support are amber, and xenon white.  A traditional incandescent or halogen turn signal bulb, usually, supports two filaments which are; low intensity(parking lights and/or daytime running lights) and high intensity(turn signals and sometimes parking lights).  Some may also only support a single high intensity filament.  High intensity means the brightness of the lamp has a higher light output.  Low intensity will lower the light output.  Your switchback bulb works very similarly but instead of “dimming” the second filament to give you a low intensity light, it will actually support a white colored light that measures at a color temperature from 5,800K-6,500K.  The high intensity filament will appear in a bright amber color.  The white color activate as soon as your vehicle begins to utilize the second low intensity filament.  How your vehicle utilizes both the high and low intensity filament, with the factory bulb, will give you an idea of how our switchback LED bulbs will function with car.  For most vehicles, you will have a white color for your parking lights or daytime running lights, and will switch to an amber color once a turn signal is engaged.  After the turn is finished and the signal turns off, the amber light “switches back” to a xenon white color.  The switchback bulbs will not flash “white-amber-white-amber” like you see with a lot of ‘knock-off’ LED bulbs that everybody tries to avoid.  They will flash like your original halogen bulbs and only in amber color.

We offer LED switchback bulbs in a several different sizes from an old style dual filament size like 1157 as well as the latest sizes like 7443(T20), and 3157(T25).  They are also available in different chip sets from our AX2835, EX, and PX to our 3030 chip set so that you will have multiple options in light output.  Certain LED switchback bulbs like our PX, and 3030 series, will even support a non-polarity feature so that they will function with sockets that are equipped with a standard or CK/SRCK configuration!

With most vehicles, if you utilize our switchback bulb, you will have the ability to use a white light for your parking lights, and an amber color for your turn signals.  Having this feature together with your turn signals will ensure that other drivers, in front of you, will have a much easier time noticing you, coming up from behind.  The fact that the parking lights are white and switch to amber will also make you that much more noticeable and thus improve driving safety. So next time you need to replace a turn signal bulb, do not just switch the bulb for a bright LED bulb, “switchback” to a revolution of LED turn signals.

Changing the game in back up lights!

 

You have heard it many times, and you will hear it again.  “Why do car makers put such dim bulbs in their cars?”  Look no further because JDM ASTAR is at it again.  We have a huge line up of LED back up lights to help rid of those tedious 15W factory bulbs that emit less light than your smartphones camera light.  Yes, we said it. . . .SMARTPHONE CAMERA LIGHT!  We have seen back up lights not shine properly to where it makes it difficult, not to mention unsafe, to reverse your vehicle. 921 GX 3020.jpg

JDM ASTAR has just released, yet, another option that will change the game in how you reverse your car.  Our latest addition to back up lights is our 921 GX 3020 LED.  Most vehicles use this bulb size for back up lights, but for those that use other T20 or T25 wedge sizes, we still have other options that will improve your experience while reversing your car.  The 921 GX3020 is changing how light is distributed, and how heat is dissipated.  The GX series offers the latest in heat dissipation technology.  It features, what we like to call, Cross Heat Dissipation (HD) which is located at the center point of the bulb where temperatures reach the highest.  Since LED does not operate well under high temperatures, the Cross HD allows for maximum heat diffusion.  This means a steady and cooler temperature to allow over 20,000 hours of life (in 25°C).  When the LED bulb is fired up, the center point is where temperature immediately begins to rise and with an integrated Cross HD, you will not have a concern for a heat failure.

The GX 3020 series is also one of the brightest we offer in back up lights with a xenon white color temperature(6000K-6500K).  Out of the box, they will emit over 1000 raw lumens per bulb with 13-SMD (surface mount diodes) high power GX-3020 chips.  Combined with a 5-sided setup, you will not only have a strong light emission, it will also provide you with proper light distribution.  You have to remember, your vehicles housing is built-in around a factory halogen bulb which shines light from practically every side of the bulb so using an LED replacement, such as the GX-3020, will provide similar light distribution for optimal results.  So, the lights bright, and works well so nothing new, you might say, but wait . . . . . there is more!

For those that drive motor vehicles that have a very ‘picky’ electrical system and simply rejects the lower power draw of your LEDs, you can still utilize the GX 3020.  Like our 921 PX model, our GX series also come equipped with resistors to simulate a larger power draw to allow the bulb to be detected, and therefor making it a, CAN bus ready, or Error Free LED bulb.  This means that the power draw (W) will slightly increase so that the vehicles system can detect it and prevent minor malfunctions such as a dimming, or flicker that are caused by the system.

3030 Series coming to a turn signal near you. . . .

The body of the bulb is made with an aircraft grade aluminum and has been redesigned to increase rate of heat dissipation.  The 3030 light emitting diodes are mounted on to an aluminum board, which is connected directly to the body of the bulb.  This will push the rate of dissipation even further by up to fifteen percent!  The built-in IC ‘constant-current’ driver also plays a role in maintaining temperature since it regulates wattage to each diode and ensures the proper amount power for high efficiency and stability. This will allow your bulb to run cooler for longer periods of time, without a worry of causing any heat stress to the diodes.  This will, in turn, provide a longer life span than a standard LED bulb without a cooling method.
